The hugely influential and prolific American artist Mike Kelley, who lived and worked in Los Angeles until his death in 2013 at age 57, created art in every medium he could get his hands on. His art borrowed from pop culture and added his brash, post-punk spin with humor, self-examination, and found objects. MOCA will have over 200 works of art spanning Kelley’s 35-year career, including paintings, drawings, sculpture, music, video, photography, and performance. Included in the exhibit is an installation of Kelley’s Pay for Your Pleasure – a hallway of posters featuring famous authors, artists, and personal quotes which cast a sinister shadow on the men. On display at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA through July 28.
